# Free AI Visibility Check — does ChatGPT recommend you?

> A free, no-signup check: enter a website and one question a buyer would ask. Mentionwell asks ChatGPT (with web search), reads the answer with the same rules as its AEO dashboard, and reports whether the answer recommended the business, only named it, only cited its site as a source, or left it out.

## What you get

- **Verdict** — one of: recommended, named (mentioned but not recommended), cited only (the site was used as a source but the answer did not name or recommend it), or absent (neither mentioned nor linked).
- **Who was recommended instead** — the businesses or products the answer recommended when it did not recommend you.
- **The supporting quote** — the sentence from the answer that shows the verdict.

## How it works

1. Mentionwell asks ChatGPT your exact question with web search on.
2. The answer is read by the same classifier the Mentionwell dashboard uses. Only the answer text counts; links and source lists never count as a recommendation.
3. You see the verdict, who was recommended instead, and the quote.

A citation is not a recommendation. The check reports them separately and never counts a citation as a win.

## Limits

- One question on one engine (ChatGPT) per check. AI answers vary between runs and engines, so one answer is a snapshot, not a verdict.
- A few free checks per visitor per day. Identical checks within 24 hours return the same result.
- Only public website domains can be checked.

## Data stored

The domain, the question, the result, and an email address only if the visitor enters one. IP addresses are stored only as a one-way hash to enforce the daily limit.
